DINNER WITH A CURATOR: SUPERHEROES GO TO WAR

Join Director of Curatorial Services Erin Clancey to learn how comic book characters contributed to Allied victory in World War II.
Tuesday, January 22 from 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Superman, Wonder Woman, Captain America, and Batman—these superheroes and others embodied the ideal virtues of the American soldier during World War II and demonstrated the courage and resolve needed to fight the forces of evil overseas. From 1938 to 1950, modern comic books experienced a “Golden Age.” It is no accident that those years coincided with the most all-encompassing war in human history. While posters, magazines, movies, and radio stirred patriotism and swayed adults to support the war effort, comic books targeted American children to do their part in a time of national crisis. Join us for a special Dinner with a Curator as Director of Curatorial Services Erin Clancey discusses how comic book superheroes were used as propaganda to encourage the nation to push aside isolationism and fight for truth, justice, and the American way.

Dinner with a Curator is an evening of dinner and history hosted by The American Sector Restaurant & Bar culinary team and The National WWII Museum professionals. Guests participate in discussion on a featured topic related to World War II which is interpreted through the Museum's collection and a theme-inspired four-course dinner paired with beverage specials.
